CITY CHAPTERS
We are organized into national and citizen chapters (Cities Must Act), to raise awareness and inform local authorities and at the same time converge and weigh our voices towards national and European authorities.
Florence Must Act
About us
Born in September 2020 after a sit-in organized in just a few hours in the heart of the city center, Florence Must Act today is today a reality firmly rooted to the local context thanks to the numerous initiatives and activities carried out by a heterogeneous and transversal group of activists who regularly and continuously participate in the life of the chapter: people with different ages, origins and backgrounds, gathered in a definite synergy. Starting from the commitment on the local Tuscan territory to promote a model of municipal resolution that calls for municipalities to actively engage in receiving asylum seekers through integrated hosting and reception models (such as the italian SAI model) that provide measures to accompany, support and orient the person and facilitate integration into the local social fabric, Florence Must Act carries out two main actions: on the one hand, we pressure actions on local municipalities in order to obtain the approval of the resolution; on the other hand we organize encounters and events with civil society to raise awareness on the issue of migration and cohabitation by stimulating more authentic and stereotype-free narratives. In addition to pursuing and finalizing the signing of the resolution by the municipalities of Barberino - Tavarnelle, Pontassieve, Campi Bisenzio and Firenze, our Florentine group organized collective events and artivism performances; books and essay presentations, thematic talks, social media live-format, film premieres, campaigns of awareness-raising, meetings in schools, a two-day events at the “Dante Carlo Monni Theater” in Campi Bisenzio entitled "Multiverso – le migrazioni da più punti di vista”.
Ravenna Must Act
About us
Established in October 2021 within the I-CONTACT MD, the Ravenna chapter of Italy Must Act is composed of a cohesive group of young international university students, many of whom have shared volunteer or internship experiences in Greek refugee camps in the past. From the beginning of its activity, Ravenna Must Act found in the University of Bologna, in the campus as well as the city's municipal administration (which then signed the resolution) and the many associations operating locally, the openness and willingness necessary to engage in a common discussion on migration issues. This allowed the Ravenna group to get even closer to other fellow students and fellow citizens, sharing with them the movement's mission: to think of a Europe in which activism and daily collective action can bring back justice and ensure the overcoming of conflicts and divisions. To raise awareness on the reality of migration in Europe and on the need to protect the rights of refugees, Ravenna Must Act participated in an event on "World Refugee Day" in Verona alongside other NGOs, organized training activities at the ITIS "Nullo Baldini" in Ravenna, and contributed to the Festival of Cultures with the activity "Migrando su una ruota”. In addition, it organized a collection of food aid to be sent to the refugee camp in Corinth, Greece, and organized the Ravenna Migration Film Festival, in collaboration with UNIBO and the Municipality of Ravenna, promoting through numerous screenings and talks a discussion with citizenship on the issues of reception, social inclusion and safe ways to enter a foreign country.
